Setting up for the first time
- Locate the micro USB cable included in the box
- Plug the micro USB end into the port on the bottom of the keyboard
- Plug the USB type-A port end into the port on your computer
Selecting your dipswitches
Warning: The dipswitch settings require a power cycle to initiate the new changes – it’s a good habit to always unplug the keyboard when making changes to the dipswitch to ensure that the changes made are reinitialized and working properly.
- Turn your keyboard over to locate the dipswitches
- Use a pen or small screwdriver to flip the switches from off to on
What do these switches do and why would you want to use them?
[The remapping switches are SW1 and SW2]
- SW1 off, SW2 off – Default QWERTY mode
This is the default state of the keyboard, typing will be in QWERTY layout
- SW1 on, SW2 off – Mac Mode
This will swap the option/command key mappings (alt/win on a PC) at a firmware level
You do not need to use Mac Mode on a Mac, you can also change these key mappings in keyboard settings in your operating system settings. Additionally you can also change this using the 3rd party app Karabiner (https://pqrs.org/osx/karabiner/)
- SW1 off, SW2 on – Dvorak Mode
This will change your key layout from QWERTY to Dvorak at a firmware level
What is Dvorak? You can read about it here; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvorak_keyboard_layout
- SW1 on, SW2 on – Colemak Mode
This will change your key layout from QWERTY to Colemak at a firmware level
What is Colemak? You can read about it here; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colemak
[The caps lock switch is SW3]
- SW3 off – Default caps lock behavior
This is the default state of the caps lock key, works just like a regular caps lock key
- SW3 on – Changes caps lock key to a left control key
This will change the behavior of your caps lock key, this remaps it to the Left Ctrl (left control) key at a firmware level so that when you press caps lock the keyboard will output left control.
Some users may not use caps lock often or at all. Remapping this to left control is more useful and more ergonomic to hit left control in the caps lock key position.
Note: when using this mode you cannot use caps lock.
[The scroll lock switch is SW4]
- SW4 off – Default scroll lock behavior
This is the default state of the scroll lock key, works just like a regular scroll lock key
- SW4 on – Changes scroll lock key to disable your OS keys
This will change the behavior of your scroll lock key. This will allow you to toggle enabling and disabling your OS (“Windows” keys). Press the scroll lock key once it will disable your OS keys, press scroll lock again it will enable them again.
This is useful when you are gaming. Sometimes you may accidentally press the OS keys which can exit you from your game. Before gaming if you disable the windows keys then you can game without fear that you will accidentally exit your game. When you are finished gaming you can hit scroll lock again and regain use of your OS keys.
Note: when using this mode you cannot use scroll lock. Scroll lock function is not native to Mac OSX.
[The OS lock switch is SW5]
- SW5 off – Default OS key behavior
This is the default state of the OS (“Windows”) keys, the OS keys works just like a regular OS keys.
- SW5 on – Disables your OS keys
This will change the behavior of your OS keys. This will allow you to disable your OS (“Windows” keys). Pressing your OS keys will have no effect and no output.
This is useful when you are gaming. Sometimes you may accidentally press the OS keys which can exit you from your game. If you have a dedicated gaming computer and don’t really use it for anything else, this would be the optimal setting over the SW4 OS toggle. If you game and use your computer for other things, SW4 might be preferred as it gives you the ability to toggle them on and off, while SW5 disables them completely.
Note: when using this mode SW4 is automatically disabled as well.
[The onboard multimedia and lighting control switch is SW6]
- SW6 off – Default Menu key behavior
This is the default state of the menu (“Windows context menu” or “right-click menu”) key, the menu key works just like a regular menu key.
- SW6 on – Changes Menu key to the internal Fn (function) key
This will change the behavior of your menu key. When this mode is enabled the menu key will be hidden from the operating system so you will not be able to use the menu key.
Remember SW6 must be “ON” to use multimedia functions
When this mode is enabled you can use the onboard media controls:
- Fn + Insert = Play / Pause
- Fn + Home = Stop (this is not supported on Mac)
- Fn + Delete = Previous Track
- Fn + End = Next Track
- Fn + Page Up = Volume Up
- Fn + Page Down = Volume Down
- Fn + Pause = Mute
- Fn + F13 / Print Screen = Eject (Mac Mode only)
For backlit CODE models, this also enables lighting controls:
- Fn + F12 = Turns LED backlighting ON/OFF (CODE models only)
- Fn + F11 = Cycles through the 6 different brightness settings for backlighting (CODE models only)
