Check out our quick tutorial video
1. Switches and Case Selection
-
a. Select your switch type.
We offer a wide variety of different switch types. If you're not sure of which one to get please check out our mechanical keyboard guide: (link) for more information or pick up our 9-Key tester to physically feel each switch before making a keyboard purchase. (link) -
b. Select your case color.
We have two different types of cases; standard ABS plastic and upgraded CNC milled aluminum. We have two different colors of standard cases, black and white. We have three different anodizing finishes for the aluminum cases. Black, gray and silver. If you want to check out more detailed photos and information about the cases we offer, please see our individual case products in our parts section. (link)
2. Color Selection
-
a. Changing the color target; Keycap and Text.
This selection allows you to choose to target the keycaps or the keycap text for painting in the color swatch of your choice. -
b. Choosing the color.
Pick one of the 21 color swatches to choose which color you want to apply to the target you have previously selected. -
c. Color application.
Once you have chosen the color swatch you want to apply, now just simply click on the keycap you want to color with that swatch. Depending on the target you have selected this will either color the keycap or the text on that key. -
d. Key groups.
Use the key groups as a more efficient way of coloring large groups of keycaps or text. The groups are sectioned by Alphanumeric keys, Modifier keys and All keys.
For example: if you wanted to color all of the alphanumeric keycaps in "beige", make sure your target is set to keycaps, then choose the "beige" color swatch, then click on the Alphanumeric key group to apply that color to all of the alphanumeric keycaps. The same can be done with text, just change the target to text.
Note: by default our customizer will not allow you to choose the same keycap color and same text color. This is due to the fact that the contrast will be so low you won't be able to see the legend. You may want this as an aesthetic effect however, and if this is the case please let us know in the comments or send us an email request.
3. Legend Selection
-
a. Alphanumeric Selection.
Here you can choose the legends (text) for your alphanumeric keys. We have a wide range of premade layouts available. Any choices you make here will be reflected on the customizer.
Note 1: Depending on what standard you've chosen (ANSI vs ISO) these premade layouts may be different. Please read the article on ANSI vs ISO to learn the differences and which one you should choose initially.
Note 2: Some of our alphanumeric layouts also include modifiers (such as "Mac" and a few others). When choosing one of these layouts, then modifier legend selection will become grayed-out, this is because these special layouts already have modifier legends included.
Note 3: Please be aware that there are some layouts available that may not be QWERTY or something you're familiar with. These layouts such as Dvorak and Colemak especially are very different than a standard layout so be careful when choosing these layouts as you may be expecting them to be setup in QWERTY initially. If you don't want a Colemak layout, please don't choose one accidentally. -
b. Modifier Selection.
Here you can choose the legends for your modifier keys. We have both standard and "media" legend options here for your mods. -
c. OS Selection.
Here you can choose the legends or icons for your Operating System keys.
Note: When applying OS legends to previously "blank" keys, the default color will be white. If this does not suit you or match the layout you want, please go back to the color section and correct this default color. -
d. Advanced (Optional) Upload Design.
Here you'll be able to upload your own custom file to allow for limitless creation of your layout. If you want to add a custom font or custom graphics to your layout, you'll use our template files (here) to edit your layout at a granular level. Once you have created your custom template you will upload it here. Just select the file from your computer.
Note: Your custom svg or ai file will not be displayed on the customizer when uploaded. Web support for SVGs is not as robust as a dedicated application, it's best to view your file in Inkscape or Illustrator. If you desire a preview, there are special layers within our template files for create your own preview to see how it will look before we print it. You can also request a preview made by us to be emailed to you before production.
4. Options.
-
a. Sound damper options.
Here you can choose between our o-ring damper offerings in 0.2 or 0.4mm travel reduction options. These dampers quiet down the bottoming out "clack" when typing with more force. More information about sound dampers available here (link) -
b. Comments.
Here you can request things that are not possible on the customizer. Removing legends from some keys, making certain sublegends a custom hex color, applying a certain text to your spacebar, etc. We can't accommodate all requests but we try our best. If we're confused about anything you ask we will email you about clarification. More info (here)
