v3 CODE Tally Light
re: v3B CODE 104
I sit a bit back from the keyboard (long arms and two big monitor screens) and as a consequence I cannot see the tally lights for numlock, capslock, scrollock. They nest close to the back side of the top row of the numeric keypad. As a result I'm typing away, and don't realize some set of keys has changed state. Often I am typing on the numeric keypad and my cursor has gotten lost somewhere, because I inadvertently hit the numlock.
I then have to lean forward to see the state of the tallys. It would be much better if on v4 you moved the tallys up to be on the same horizontal line as the function keys. IBM did this with the Model M, and it makes perfect sense to me. Also it would not hurt to make them slightly larger. In a well lit room I have to lean WAY forward to see if they are on, because the LEDs sit below the top surface in a bit of a tiny well. For those that don't want to see them at all, perhaps their brightness could be a separate function on v4.
There are only two criticisms that I could mount for the v3. The one above, and the other is the pencil tray. Again, IBM had a larger front to back footprint on the Model M, but it allowed that space (along with the ridge) to be used as a pencil/pen tray. I am forever loosing my pen in the mess of my desktop. I miss that docking spot.
Thanks for listening.
